Collection: AIR BORN
AIR BORN
Painting by Linda Horsley
ON VIEW June through August 2025
Linda Horsley’s works are layered in oil paint between Surrealism and Modernism. Beauty in color. Layers of water. Layers of air. The interlocking shape relationships and rhythms at first glance have a sense of beauty but also an edge of discomfort. Look closely to seek out the nervous dog amidst stingrays, eels and flying fish. Or the owl sleeping with one eye open, not quite settled enough to drop the vigilance. Amongst the beaks, talons, teeth and sharp fins there is vulnerable skin, exposed to the twisting and turning of the subjects. It is this play of characters in an ever-changing setting that keeps the viewer entranced.
Born in 1949, St. Louis-based Linda Horsley received her BFA from the University of Washington and MFA from Northwestern University. As a multi-faceted artist/teacher/writer, Horsley has worked with galleries, curators, collectors and taught at Northwestern and the Art Institute of Seattle. She is a founding member of the City Museum in St. Louis where she was the Exhibit and Event Coordinator for 7 years. If you explore the caves there you can see her “cave paintings” today.
