Everything we do requires both. In this work, the artist plays with the juxtaposition between the sharp edges and angles of the buildings with the soft wispy clouds, creating a peace between two opposites. Giving a thought to future dreams and goals. Each building is a playful creation by the artist, except one, which may look very familiar. You will find bits of technology such as player piano paper, computer punched tape, and voice recording tape in combination with natural papers. In Convenient, three vintage domestic machines, a sewing machine, a stand mixer, and a massage instrument, are elevated through pyrography and paint on wood panel. Each one promised women something. Each one delivered, and demanded more in return. I honor resilience at every stage: function, collapse, mourning, struggle, and the new form that emerges after. The man in the bowler hat has his arm around the woman and her arm rests on the man's back. Her dress catches the eye immediately, like a flicker of sunlight against the muted sky. Below them, a dirt path cuts through thick, wind-swept greenery, leading toward soft, rolling hills. The path suggests a journey, something grounded and real, yet the figures have literally risen above it. Are they escaping from the many troubles of today's world? Rising together in love? That story is for the viewer to conjure. The soft, almost hazy sky reinforces the feeling that they're moving into a space beyond consequence, beyond gravity and perhaps, beyond the noise of life.
