A blend of personal experiences, dreamscapes, and nature shapes my creative process. I practice under SNDR, short for \"sonder\" (the realization that everyone lives a life as vivid and complex as their own). This idea drives my art practice, especially my love for abstracted portraiture. I am fascinated by identity and interpersonal relationships, and nature’s lifecycle often inspires me. I paint stylized portraits in acrylic, using bold colors, transparent layers, and expressive brushstrokes. Subjects in my work often feel familiar, whether they vaguely resemble myself or people I’ve encountered in my lifetime. I lean into vulnerability, which helps me create thought-provoking, emotion-driven pieces. Though unglamorous, we march to the rhythm of these endless cycles. My work imbues daily burdens with magic and whimsy proportionate to their weight as lifelong rituals. Bright neon pigments in underlit settings give common objects a supernatural feel and ethereal glow. Reflective shiny surfaces further distort the familiar into the uncanny. A pan warps other dishware and the surrounding kitchen into a fluid jumble of color and shape. The radiant light of a laundry basket transforms a pile of spilled clothes into an unrecognizable, alien-like mass. When my laundry basket overflows, it weighs on me until it’s washed and put away; by the time this happens, I have more laundry to do—a never-ending cycle. This lioness, along with her litter mates, were part of the illegal exotic pet trade in Europe. They were found in a small apartment in Lyon France, subject to neglect and abuse. The Born Free Foundation rescued them and re-homed them at Lion's Rock in South Africa. Though she is now at ease, in a carefree environment, she still keeps an eye on you, and is not to be taken lightly! As a francophone, I couldn't resist a playful title with her city of origin, Lyon. My other paintings of her adult brothers were donated to the Born Free Footsteps to Freedom Gala and were auctioned off in 2024 to benefit Born Free and the work that they do.
