Andrea Hughes, a self-taught career artist, is currently curator and director of the 14th Street Artist Community, and president of the Zuka Art Guild. A resident of the Old North St. Louis Community where some of her artwork can be seen on many residential doors, fences and businesses in the area. She was chosen as the Community Impact Artist of 2022 by the St Louis visionary awards. This organization celebrates the many contribution and achievement of women who support the arts in our region.
Andrea has traveled extensively, and recent visits to India and Ghana have made a major impact on her recent works. Especially in this piece titled "US," the art is entirely acrylic paint on canvas. The techniques used to create the designs is called Mehndi. This method is traditionally done with henna, instead of paint.
