Inspired by artists in my family and a transformative 2021 trip to New Orleans, I began painting as a creative release from the weight of social justice work. What began as a personal diversion became a passion for using color, texture, movement, and form to evoke feeling and connection with potential viewers. Working primarily in acrylics and mixed media, I experiment with unconventional tools and materials, allowing each piece to develop through an intuitive process of layering, shaping, removing, and responding. My work ranges from bold abstracts and expressive color to minimalist compositions that explore negative space and simplicity. My sculpted works extend my practice beyond the traditional painted surface. Hand-forming lacquered painted paper adds dimension and curiosity. I'm especially drawn to experimentation, the unexpected markings, texture, or material that opens a new direction. My work reflects curiosity, freedom, resilience, and the continuing possibility of becoming.
