The world around us, which seems so permanent and forgiving, gives way to our human interventions and sometimes the effects are irreversible. Recently my paintings have been exploring these human interventions by mixing mediums in intentionally non-archival combinations, and purposefully subjecting the works to destructive forces. The paintings exist as analogical records of these entropic natural forces. Initially constructed by me in the studio, the works exists if only for a moment as a pristine manmade structure—an effigy of the manmade structures all around us—and through meticulously randomized processes, the paintings experience varied results. Driven by a post minimalist formalism the paintings are both laboratory experiments of material sciences and metaphors for the inevitable decay of all things.
