 After having a large show at Principia College in 2021, I wanted to work smaller. I looked at a few tossed papers on the floor of my studio and began to just paint these. What I thought would be a few warm up studies turned into a year of study. What I thought were simple pieces of paper, became a world of chaotic, geometric planes that had unending compositional possibilities. What I thought had no meaning, became theater, where tucks and folds hid from and curled towards another as if in some modern dance performance. Twenty three paintings were made and studies that began with low chromatic hues like white and grey have become paintings of imagined green leaves blowing in some unknown breeze. Several of these paintings were exhibited at the Duane Reed Gallery this past summer and two have been purchased.
