For some, X is that unique quality that defies description. All at once, it is magical, mystical, mysterious and metaphorical. For many, X is the answer to a problem that must be solved: "If I can figure out X, then I'll be able to ______." For others, X is an aspiration, the fulfillment of a dream: "If only I had X, then I'd be _______." X is a metaphor -- a placeholder -- a symbol -- a visual reminder. It is the secret wish, the hidden desire, the unmet need. For me, X is code for an idea I hold close. What does X mean to you? Once you discover your X, you'll understand your why. All of the works in my X series are carved and painted wood. I first purchase a sheet of MDF (wood), then cut it to size, then draw my image, then use a hand-held router to cut the image into the wood. After that step, I seal the wood with gesso, then paint it, then varnish it.
