Latitude Zero began as an act of looking: a solo journey along the equator at the beginning of the third millennium. As a photojournalist, I photographed the people, landscapes, gestures, and fleeting encounters I encountered along the way—raw, poetic fragments of life within one degree north and south of latitude zero. These black-and-white silver gelatin prints are now more than two decades old. Time has transformed them from immediate observations into a visual record of a particular moment in history, while the human experience within them remains timeless. Latitude Zero was published in 2010 as an award-winning book, with a foreword by Paul Theroux. The book continues to sell, and limited-edition prints remain available. Photography remains at the heart of my practice, though I now work across photography, metal sculpture, assemblage, and painting. Across these mediums, I continue to follow the same impulse: to look closely, respond intuitively, and make work that is authentic.
