I am Shmay, an interdisciplinary artist and poet in St. Louis, USA. The paintings, illustrations, photography, murals and interactive puzzles I create in my visual practice serve two functions. My work is first a personal timestamp and secondarily a public invitation into guilt-free play and non-traditional expression. Timestamps: each piece is intuitively (and sometimes physically) infused with rich metadata about who I was at the time and I’m constantly open to influence from the world around me in my work. Invitation: With each process video, public installations or custom puzzle, I share with the viewer the reality of my chaos and impulses and leave space for interpretation or guesses or hidden meaning.
