 The connection between a photograph and the essence of being is most intriguing to me when making work. When recalling the instinct of creating images, I recognize the urge to preserve the moment in which the essence of life is most present. As I create, the moment moves from what is happening to what has been, the photograph attempts to preserve it, combating the inevitability of its loss. Photographs, footprints, anything left behind is an impression of what has passed. As left behind traces, they tell us what has led to the current moment that faces us. When making photographs, I am seeking out the true essence of what it is to be alive within all that has happened before us.
