The Hound of the Baskervilles represents how a century old novel can feel contemporary and personal. I am a big fan of classic literature and appreciate how the art form of writing allows the reader to weave their own experiences into a story, filling out the pages with a depth that’s wholly unique to each individual. St. Louis Zoo is the beginning of a series representing my appreciation for sites around the St. Louis area. In appreciating the paintings of other local artists, I realized that I wanted to find a way to incorporate local areas into my paintings that represent what I find unique and exciting about the city. The Cow Jumped Over the Moon explores the entertaining and memorable imagery of the classic line from the nursery rhyme “Hey Diddle, Diddle”. The central figure is a fluffy, stuffed cow that is warm and inviting. The phases of the moon are painted in a sparkling glitter, intended to produce a dazzling effect, evocative of the night sky.
