I never know what I’m doing. I sit before a blank canvas with no plan—just instinct. My brush moves, shapes emerge, and I’m as surprised as anyone. It feels less like creating and more like unearthing something that was always there, like excavating fragile dinosaur bones. I don’t paint with control; I paint with discovery. Inspiration strikes without warning—a fleeting image, a passing moment—and suddenly, I have to paint. I’m captivated by contrasts: the refined and the raw, lace and grit, beauty and brutality—like an English rose returning from a Sub-Saharan sojourn, adorning her manor walls with rough-hewn African masks. I chase that tension. I like to paint delicate, feminine subjects with forceful, unapologetic strokes. That’s why I’m drawn to artists like Goya and Kahlo. I crave beauty with bite.
