Utilizing both illusion and chemical reaction, I challenge the viewer to wonder what they are seeing, to look closely, and compassionately examine. Asking not only what do you see? But what then does this evoke in you? As a Registered Art Therapist, I encourage the cultivation of personal awareness and utilization of creative practice as one way to further explore personal growth and community connection. Blending artistic mediums, I use alternative photographic processes to slow down, experiment, and play. What began as an attempt to control a fluid medium, quickly revealed itself as a lesson in letting go and trusting the process. I draw inspiration from the natural world, and its parallels to the human disposition. From The Lake, pressed wildflowers and cattails are outlined against hues of blue created by cyanotype photographic chemicals. Hues of blue in the background of the image reveal subtle textures created by tumeric and bubbles.
