Cher Horowitz and Tai Frasier, Beverly Hills 1995 Tai: Do you think she's pretty? Cher: No, she's a full on Monet. Tai: What's a Monet? Cher: It's like a painting, see? From far away it's ok but up close it's a big ole' mess. Go on, get up close. How many imperfections can you find? Ask yourself, do these micro flaws ruin the overall piece for you? Do you find yourself criticizing my choice to not spend hours meticulously smoothing out the edges or picking off rogue glitter specs? I couldn't possibly assume your answer, as people have proven to be complex and unpredictable, but I DO know imperfection sparks conversation. Sparks commentary and judgements. By using familiar colors and imagery, my goal is to get the viewer to really examine the work and point out the smallest details, positive or negative. Focus on the minutia. Find substance in imperfection. And the glitter? Well, nothing is more polarizing than sparkly microplastics. Enjoy your thoughts and chatter.
